INTRODUCING “MOTIF”

Introducing MOTIF, a new Duo and/or Trio performing free-form improvisations and minimalist compositions for clubs, festivals, gallery openings, workshops, and private gatherings. The Duo features myself, Doug Wicken (flute) and Tyler Wagler (double bass). For the Trio, percussionist Mike Rajna will join us. The composition, “First Light,” is a sample from our upcoming Duo album recorded in private sessions at The Jazz Room in Waterloo, Ontario. The tune is 100 per cent free-form with no prior discussions or arrangements between Tyler and myself. Other selections will be varied, from fresh takes on jazz standards to interpretations of original minimalist motifs (thus the name, MOTIF). Jeremy Bernard did a masterful job on the sound recording and mixing. My talented son, Scott Wicken, looked after the photography during the sessions.
